Hertfordshire Junior Badminton League

The League, promoted by Badminton England (BE) and Hertfordshire Schools Badminton Association (HSBA), offers young players an experience of competition as a first step towards higher level competitive play such as in HSBA tournaments and the BE circuits.

The League is aimed especially at recreational players up to 13 years of age, players who currently have limited opportunities for competitive play and those who have been involved in SmashUp! sessions, the National Schools Championships or junior clubs across the County. It is not open to players who are current members of the HSBA County squad.

Six teams from districts across the County will meet at Birchwood Leisure Centre, Longmead, Hatfield, AL10 0AN to contest matches on Sunday 28 January 2018. Matches will consist of games in girls’ and boys’ singles, girls’ and boys’ doubles and mixed doubles.

The teams and their managers are:

  • East Hertfordshire ---- Doug Clark ----------- douglas.clark3@ntlworld.com
  • Hertsmere -------------- Ken Winchester ------- kenwinchester424@gmail.com
  • North Hertfordshire --- Bob Green ------------ bob@abcegg.co.uk
  • St Albans---------------- Keith Burns ---------- keith@abbeybc.org
  • Welwyn Hatfield ------- Mike Newlove ---------- m.newlove@tiscali.co.uk
  • Watford ------------------- Phil Adams ---------- phil_adams36@hotmail.co.uk

If you are interested in playing in your district’s team, don’t delay! Email your district team manager straight away to find out how you can be involved and perhaps win selection for the match day. If you are from a district that is not listed, email the League Organiser to find out how you can become involved in playing badminton in your district.

From here you can find the League rules, the fixture list for this season, a match score sheet for use by Team Managers.

At the end of the season’s competition the Team Manager of the winning team nominates a team to represent the Hertfordshire League in the 2018/19 National Inter-League finals to be held at the National Badminton Centre in Milton Keynes.

At last season’s finals, the Herts Junior League was represented by the North Herts team, the league winners, where they performed magnificently and came away with the bronze medals!

Whoever wins this season’s league title, we wish them success at the national finals!

John Stobo, League Organiser
